About

Hello All,

My name is Kerri Norman and I am a jewelry metal smith based in the Twin Cities area of Minnesota. (In fact, at this very moment I’m typing in a Caribou Coffee in White Bear Lake – a great little town).

hello!

hello!

I am originally from Australia, having been born in Alice Springs – a small, dusty town smack bang in the middle of the continent. Yep, nothing much around, though superb if you’re into the whole Outback Experience thing.

This blog is mostly devoted to my business life and all of the stuff I’m learning about running a business and marketing it on the internet and elsewhere.

The genesis of Sterling Sun Jewelry was the end of a personal & business relationship with another metal smith/artist. As a result I’ve been faced with having to establish all that it takes to create a business in a very short amount of time. This includes applying for art shows, learning how to take good quality jewelry photographs (aarrrggghhh!), networking, buying and learning how to use a computer properly (Mac of course), building a website, finding workshop space, acquiring tools for the workshop, and Oh yea! actually building some jewelry.

As you can imagine, this has been a huge amount to dive into at no notice. Then throw in having to move and deal with the whole relationship thing and well, it’s been a tornado.

From the start I decided to put myself out there and talk to anyone who might be able to give me direction, help or advice. As a result, I’ve met many incredibly supportive artists who are more than willing to pass on networking possibilities, venues and contacts for shows, and general assistance.

Then there are all of the other folks like Nathan Uri – the fabulous web/computer/foody guy I’ve been working with – invaluable. And btw – I agree with him that Minneapolis is the most underrated city in the Union.

I hope you get something out of this blog and feel free to contribute as I’d love to get involved in some discussions around the topics I cover. Thanks!
